About the unit
This ebook task builds upon the theme "Time to celebrate". During deep learning weeks, students collaborate in groups to research traditional festivals and design an ebook introducing these festivals. Throughout the project, students have multiple opportunities to showcase their creative work by presenting their ebooks to classmates, teachers, and even peers from Singapore during an international conference.

Unit Plan
Introducing the task

T introduces the context:
Ss will participate in an exchange conference with peers from Singapore to share traditional festivals. They will collaborate with their classmates to design an ebook for the conference.

Plan
Exploring traditional festivals

T and Ss read about festivals celebrated in Hong Kong.

In groups, Ss research other traditional festivals from around the world.

Ss share their findings on Padlet.
Exploring the features of an ebook

T displays an ebook example and highlights its multimodal features (e.g. images, colours, audio, and videos).
eBook planning and feedback

In groups, Ss discuss the division of tasks for the ebook project and complete a planning form.

T demonstrates how to plan an ebook.

Ss use the ebook planner to organise their ideas for their ebooks.

Selected groups share their ebook plans for peer and teacher feedback.
Design
Sessions 3-4
Introducing Book Creator functions

T guides Ss through logging into Book Creator and demonstrates essential functions (e.g. adding text and images, changing fonts and colours).
Designing and feedback

In groups, Ss design their ebooks using Book Creator.

T circulates the classroom and provides individual feedback.

Selected groups present their ebooks to the class for peer and teacher feedback.
Share & Reflect
Session 5
Presentation: Exhibition gallery

Two representative groups from each class present their ebooks to their schoolmates at an exhibition gallery in the covered playground. Other Ss circulate to listen to different presentations.

Ss fill in a peer evaluation form and vote for their favourite group.

Back in the classroom, groups discuss which presentation they like most, reasons for their choice, and suggestions for improvement.
Self-reflection

T explains the self-reflection questions one by one.

Ss complete a self-reflection form (Google Form).
Presentation: International conference

Representative groups present their ebooks to Ss from Singapore during an international conference.
